Whether you’re young, aging, athletic, hard working or more sedentary, you’ve likely experienced body pain or stiffness at some point in your life. Often it goes away on it’s own, but sometimes it can become more bothersome and chronic.
What can cause body pain and stiffness?
A common variable I’ve noticed over the past 5 years of being a deep tissue massage therapist, is that we often wait too long to get help. When we let pain or stiffness linger in our bodies, whether it’s constant or occasional, it adds up over time. This is largely due to the shortening of fascia.
Fascia is a type of connective tissue that surrounds and pulls everything in our bodies together. When an area of our body is being affected by inflammation, pain or decreased motion, the fascia can become tight. There are many layers of fascia between the muscles which can adhere together over time. This, can make you feel stiff and sore.
The good news.
I have worked and lived with an extensive range of physical aches, so I know how it feels. The good news is: Massage can help!
As a Massage Therapist I have treated many people with this type of problem. The key is to get the muscle and fascia moving together rather than being adhered together. My job is to figure out what muscles and fascia need treatment and act as a conduit between you and your body’s ability to heal.
The best thing to do: Create a specific treatment plan that works for you with your therapist(s). A focused treatment can help your muscles and fascia loosen, and you will notice the difference it makes. This will help keep you moving so you can do the things that matter most in your life.
So don’t wait, let’s get started!
